Though Ryan may have insisted before that Lucy's mood brightening had nothing to do with his being around, the fact that she'd been feeling better over the past few days than she had in months seemed to dictate otherwise. She wasn't sure what it was about him, but she didn't think she needed to, either. It was enough that he'd been feeling the same way she had for all that time; knowing that, she saw no reason to question it.

One of the up sides to what had wound up happening with them was that she no longer needed an excuse to drop by his hut. After the long walk from the treehouse, she was tired and it was late afternoon by the time she got there, but it was better than running all that way. The door was closed, but she couldn't help but smile when she reached it, raising one hand to knock and then rocking back on her heels expectantly.

Maybe they were taking it slow, and maybe the island wouldn't let it last all that long, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to enjoy it.

That was what it came down to, in the end. She was fine, she could move on, but he was still trying to distance himself from the business with Marissa. It had been months, though, since he'd been with her, and though he was still set on going home to save her, it had been a long time since she'd been his girlfriend. There was no reason not to move forward. He had a feeling Summer would disagree with his logic, but Summer didn't need to know yet. This was something separate, and they could keep it theirs a little longer.

"See, that's hard to figure out," he said slowly, turning his head toward her, "because I have no idea what to do for dates in this place." One corner of his mouth quirked a little higher, his free hand coming to rest on her knee.

"I think I could manage that," Ryan said lightly. It was just as well. He'd never been much good at the dates part of dating. Before Marissa, what he'd done generally couldn't have been called dating at all, come to that. None of the relationships had been serious, at least. There'd been plenty of girls but no real girlfriends. For all his experience, he really didn't know what to do. Pulling his hand from her waist to steady himself against the bed, he turned to better face her, the hand on her knee moving to rest against her jaw and pull her in for another kiss, deeper this time. That was clear enough for now.

With this, at least, he knew exactly what he was doing. The position wasn't an easy one to maintain, though, all his weight on one hand as he leaned in toward her. It wasn't long before he just wanted to get closer, and with the way they were sitting, that wasn't happening. They might still have been moving slow, but that didn't mean they had to sit at the end of the bed like children. They could take it slow just as easily further up onto the bed. Slipping his hand a little lower down her neck, he broke the kiss. "Get up here," he said, pulling his other leg up onto the bed and inching back, reaching to tug her after him. They'd be more comfortable that way.
